Pre-Gradings Complete – Progress Through Hard Work

10 May 2026

Our Intermediate and High Grade belt pre-gradings are now complete, and what a weekend it has been. There was plenty of hard work, determination and effort shown across every session, with students pushing themselves both physically and mentally as they worked through the demands of the syllabus.

At these levels, grading preparation becomes far more technical. Small details matter. Stances, timing, control, precision, understanding and overall presentation all become increasingly important. Over the course of the pre-gradings, we saw a lot of technical elements cleaned up and improved, with students taking on feedback and applying it straight away. That willingness to learn and improve is exactly what helps students progress long term.

Did everyone make it through to the next stage? No.

But that is completely part of the journey.

Pre-gradings are not there to catch people out or discourage them. They are there to honestly assess where each student currently stands and to identify where improvements still need to be made before attempting the next level. Sometimes the best thing for a student’s development is a little more time to refine techniques, improve fitness, build confidence or strengthen their understanding of the syllabus.

Progress in Martial Arts is not measured purely by belts. It is measured by resilience, attitude, consistency and the ability to keep improving after setbacks. Some students progress quickly, while others need a little longer to develop certain areas. Both paths are perfectly normal.

What matters most is how students respond afterwards.

The students who continue to train hard, listen to feedback and keep turning up are the ones who ultimately succeed. Every difficult session, every correction and every challenge helps build stronger martial artists in the long run.

Well done to everyone who attended the pre-gradings. You should all be proud of the effort you put in. For those moving forward, keep pushing. For those who need a little more time, use this as motivation, focus on the areas highlighted and come back stronger next time.
